New Delhi, Jan. 13 : Senator Richard Colbeck, Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture said on Tuesday that greater agriculture trade opportunities are in sight for the Australian producers in India.
Senator Colbeck expressed that the week-long visit to India was a great opportunity to promote trade with Australian exporters in the Indian market.
"One of the real highlights of my role is the opportunity to promote Australian food, fibre and agriculture to the world," he said.
"My schedule is to meet with industry leaders from India's fibre, textile, dairy and wine sectors to promote our clean, green and reliable produce," he added.
"So far I have had the privilege of joining Australian Trade Minister Andrew Robb to launch the Australian Food Festival, promoting some of the quality Australian food and beverages that are already available in the Indian marketplace and pressing the case for more," Colbeck said.
He further said that such visits would lead to tangible benefits such as expanding shelf space for Australian products in supermarkets across India.
After visiting New Delhi for the Australian Business Week in India (ABWI), Colbeck will visit Mumbai and Ahmedabad to participate in bilateral talks on future opportunities for textile trade, a major food and grocery forum, and to deliver key note addresses at both food and beverage and dairy roundtable meetings.
"The Australian Government remains focused on maximising the export opportunities for Australian producers. I am working together with the 400 industry representatives on this trip, on expanding our two-way trade," Senator Colbeck said.
"This initiative is a great opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of close agricultural ties between India and Australia. It is an exciting time to be here to understand how Australian technology and innovations can be applied to the Indian market - to the benefit of both countries," he said.
"While Australia may not be the Asian food bowl, what we have here is a great opportunity to help raise the profile of our products and potentially increase Australia's market share of this valuable and diverse market," he added.
Senator Colbeck is an Australian Government representative at Australian Business Week in India. ABWI activities are being held from 10-16 January 2015.
