Crompton Greaves bags Rs 600 cr order from PGCIL

Kolkata, March 22 : Crompton Greaves Limited (CG), part of the USUSD 4 billion Avantha Group, along with its partner company, ZTR of Ukraine, has bagged contracts for supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 765kV shunt reactors to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for their various projects across the country.

The project is of strategic importance for the company's entry into the ultra high voltage (UHV) market. The order is valued at Rs. 600 crore, according to a company statement on Monday.

The contract, won against stiff global competition from both Indian and multinational companies includes in its scope design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 86 nos. 765 kV shunt reactors. The project completion schedule is July 2012.

SM Trehan, Managing Director, Crompton Greaves Limited, said, "This domestic order from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited speaks of our strong project management and execution skills. The association with PGCIL will pave the way for us to enter into the UHV segment, which will be an important area for Crompton Greaves going forward."

765KV is the highest system voltage in the country. With this, Crompton Greaves has become the first Indian company to have firmly established itself as a major and reliable player in the UHV segment.
