Heat wave continues to grip Orissa

Bhubaneswar, March 22 : Heat wave conditions continued to prevail in Orissa with several parts Monday recording maximum temperature of more than 40 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said.

Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district, 270 km from here, recorded 42 degrees Celsius - the day's and the season's highest in the state, S.C. Sahu, director, Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

Except a few coastal towns including Paradip and Gopalpur, the maximum temperatures in most parts of the state were around 40 degrees Celsius, he said.

Other places where high temperatures were recorded included state capital Bhubaneswar (40.4), Jharsuguda (41) Sambalpur (41.7), Cuttack (40.5), and Talcher (41.7).

Heat wave conditions would prevail in the state during the next 48 hours, he said.
