Pak in best friend category of US: BJP

New Delhi, Mar 22 : Reacting to the possibility of US signing a nuclear deal with Pakistan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said the country is 'not serious' about fighting terror.

"It seems US is not serious about fighting terrorism; because, signing N-deal with Pakistan means empowering them with terror props," BJP President Nitin Gadkari said here.

Meanwhile, another senior BJP leader has criticized US-Pak relation, saying they are 'best friends'.

"Pakistan is in the category of best friends for the United States. They have been helping Pakistan with money, which the latter has been using against India for terrorist activities etc. We have brought this into notice of Pakistan and US, but the Obama administration does not seem to align to what our government is saying because they have a personal interest in Pakistan," BJP leader VK Malhotra said in an interview with Times Now.

He further said US-Pak N-deal will complicate the situation.

"US has had agreements with China and other countries as well. In those agreements there are no conditions as such. It is only with India that the US have set conditions. If this US-Pak deal is inked, then it will only further complicate the situation," Malhotra said.

"America has been pumping in millions in Pakistan, unlike in India where the amount put is considerably smaller. We are totally against this deal," he added.

Meanwhile, Anne W. Patterson, US Ambassador to Pakistan, told a US-based Pakistani journal: "We are beginning to have a discussion with the Pakistan Government on the country's desire to tap nuclear energy."
