Manmohan Singh greets nation on 'Navroz'

New Delhi, Mar 21 : Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Saturday greeted the people of the country on the occasion of Navroz, the Parsi New Year.

Dr Singh said the festival brings values of peace and religious harmony in India, adding that the festival is also a living symbol of the rich diversity and the vibrant composite culture of India.

Jamshed-E-Navroz is the first day of the first month of the Zoroastrian year. Parsis follow the Fasli calendar and their New Year commences with the Vernal Equinox. The festival is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm.

The community dutifully follows all the rituals performed during Jamshed-e-Navroz. Parsis offer special prayers on the day savour the fixed menu of the festival and greet each other.

This is the most celebrated festival of the Parsis, which is celebrated every year on March 21.
