Sunset Boulevard to cover 10 cities

Ahmedabad, Mar 17 : Ahmedabad International Film festival founder Shiladitya Bora on Wednesday announced the launch of Sunset Boulevard Film Society.

Sunset Boulevard is a movement started in Ahmedabad and hope to reach every small and big town across the country in due course of time. It is a platform for people to come together, explore and enjoy the artistic pleasure of cinema, experienced never before, said the initiators.

Shiladitya Bora said, "Years back, when I was a student at L.D. Engineering, I regularly used to attend the film screenings held at The House of MG and thus my interest in cinema grew up and finally I took up cinema as a career. In a similar manner Sunset Boulevard will be introducing the people at cities starving for quality world class content to the wondrous of world cinema.

"If some of this exploration leaves a strong enough aftertaste, some classic film scripts will begin appearing on shelves in bookstores, a creative spark somewhere will begin thinking of adapting one of these scripts for stage, cinema houses will begin romancing the idea of organising retrospectives of great filmmakers. From a there-isn't -much-to-do city, Ahmedabad will become a hub of creativity".

From Iran to Israel, Ukraine to Uzbekistan, Holland to Hungary, China to Chile and the repertoire of regional marvel of India, Sunset Boulevard would bring the unprecedented experience to its esteemed members every week unlike a film festival, which is commenced once in a year only.

Commencing from April 15, 2010, Sunset Boulevard will showcase 4 award winning feature films (once in a week) and one interaction with a renowned filmmaker every month.

The concept shall change the definition of weekend cinema by showing some of the finest films ever made worldwide in the history of cinema at a city multiplex.

The opening film on April 15, 2010 would be Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's most recent and well-acclaimed feature film "The Songs of Sparrow".

The film was selected as Iran's representative for Best Foreign Language Film in the 81st Academy Awards. A detailed list of the films that are going to be screened is available on the Sunset Boulevard website www.sunsetboulevard.in .

Apart from film screenings from time to time Sunset Boulevard will bring filmmakers and cinema experts to speak about the aesthetics of cinema which itself would create a new window towards creating a sense of good cinema.

Sunset Boulevard will be initially launched at Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Hyderabad simultaneously.

Bora said he has plans of covering 10 cities in 2010 in 3 phases.

In the 2nd phase, it will be launched in Vadodara, Surat and Delhi and in the 3rd phase it will cover Kolkata, Guwahati Chandigarh and Pune.
