GPT Infraprojects enters Namibia

Kolkata, Mar 17 : Infrastructure enabling services company GPT Infraprojects Limited on Wednesday announced that it has been awarded a contract by The Government of the Republic of Namibia, for Manufacture and Supply of Concrete Sleepers by setting up a Concrete Sleeper Plant at Tsumeb, Namibia.

The order, represented by Ministry of Works and Transport and TransNamib Holdings Limited, a wholly owned Namibian Government Undertaking, is valued at NUSD 314 Million (equivalent of Rs. 195 Crores approximately) over a period of 5 years.

The project shall be setup in Public Private Partnership with TransNamib Holdings Limited, wherein GPT shall hold 50pc stake.

TransNamib is the rail and road service provider in Namibia and has a rail network of approximately 2,500 route length km.

This will involve investment by GPT of NUSD 25 Million (equivalent to Rs. 15.5 Crores approximately). The project is expected to enter commercial production by October 2010, subject to statutory and environmental clearances, said the company.
