New Delhi, March 16 : Nearly 100 women, some of them survivors of breast cancer, will drive from Delhi to Jaipur April 2 to create awareness about the disease that kills over 40,000 women every year in India.
"Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in cities and we hope this rally will spread awareness among people," Ramesh Sarin, founder chairperson of the Forum for Breast Cancer Protection, told IANS Tuesday.
Said P.K. Julka, a senior oncologist at AIIMS: "Nearly 100,000 women get affected by breast cancer in India, of whom around 40,000 die due to lack of awareness and late diagnosis. People need to change their lifestyle. Balanced food and exercise are key to battle the disease."
During the rally, the organisers will hold two awareness lectures at Dharuhera and Alwar on their way to Jaipur. They would also screen a short film on the disease and distribute CDs and literature to women for self checks.
The rally will start April 2 from Saket in south Delhi. The rally is a Time Speed Distance (TSD) event that comprises a set of instructions specifying a route to travel, and a speed at which to travel.
