Govt answerable on N-Liability Bill: Advani

New Delhi, Mar 15 : National Democratic Alliance (NDA) working chairman LK Advani on Monday said the UPA government is answerable why it deferred the introduction of nuclear liability bill in the Lok Sabha.

"The government should tell the House why it is not introducing the Bill. Government should tell the House whether it has a re-think on it or whether they are not introducing because of opposition to the Bill," Advani said.

"The Bill was the most important agenda of the day (Monday). And, without any explanation, the government postponed it. This is not acceptable," he said.

Earlier, on Monday Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar announced that the government 'does not intend' to introduce the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill.

The Bill was an important part of the Indo-US Nuclear deal that says in case of any nuclear accident, a maximum of Rs 300 crore will be paid to the plant operator.

The Bill was passed by the Union Cabinet on November 2009.
