New Delhi, March 15: Former Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner S.S.Rathi, convicted in the Connaught Place shooting of two businessmen, was Monday granted parole by the Delhi High Court for attending law classes.
Justice S.L.Bhayana granted 15 days' parole to Rathi to attend his LL.M classes after furnishing a personal bond of Rs.30,000, along with one surety.
He also directed Rathi to surrender before Tihar Jail superintendent after the expiry of parole.
Earlier also, Rathi was granted parole by the Delhi government as he had to file a special leave petition before the Supreme Court challenging his conviction in the Connaught Place hooting case.
S.S. Rathi is serving life term in Tihar following his conviction by a Delhi trial court on October 24, 2007.
A team of policemen headed by Rathi had gunned down two Haryana-based businessmen, Pradeep Goyal and Jagjeet Singh, in the Outer Circle of the Connaught Place near The Statesman office on March 31, 1997.
The police team had intercepted the victim's car and opened fire, mistaking one of them to be a wanted gangster, Yaseen.
