Railway revenue earnings up by 8.74 pc
New Delhi, Dec 8 : The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during April 1- November 30, 2009, were Rs. 55586.69 crore compared to Rs. 51117.55 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.74 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 34394.97 crore during 1st April - 30th November 2008 to Rs. 37337.46 crore during 1st April - 30th November 2009, an increase of 8.56 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during first eight months of the financial year 2009-10 were Rs. 15597.44 crore compared to Rs. 14440.92 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.01 per cent, said an official release Tuesday.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 1501.62 crore during April-November 2009 compared to Rs. 1297.69 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 15.71 per cent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April-November 2009 were 4937.73 million compared to 4717.56 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.67 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-November 2009 were 2538.04 million and 2399.69 million compared to 2510.40 million and 2207.16 million during the same period last year, an increase of 1.10 per cent and 8.72 per cent respectively.
