Govt. assures of decision on seven suspended MPs by Thursday evening

New Delhi, Mar 11: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister P. K. Bansal on Thursday said a decision on the seven Rajya Sabha MPs, who were suspended after they created a ruckus during the tabling of the Women's Reservation Bill on Monday, will be taken by the evening.

"I am hopeful a solution will be arrived at by evening," Bansal said.

The assurance has been given after the opposition parties, whose members were suspended, continued to disrupt parliament proceedings and demanded roll back of the suspension order.

The suspended MPs are: Samajwadi Party members Nand Kishore Yadav, Kamal Akhtar, Aamir Alam Khan, Veerpal Singh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal member and party chief Lalu Prasad's brother-in-law Subash Yadav, Lok Janshakti Party member Sabir Ali and Janata Dal-United member Ejaz Ali.

The motion for their suspension was moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan and was passed by a voice vote.

The action was taken under Rule 256 of the House, for showing total disregard for dignity of Council and authority of the Chair by obstructing the business of the House.
