New Delhi, Mar 9: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday termed the passage of Women's Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha as a 'historic moment' and a step forward at the right time.
"The Bill that is going to be passed is a giant step forward and a historic moment," Singh said after a thumping majority voted in favour of the Bill in the Upper House.
"It will be a landmark legislation in Indian democracy."
Underlining the important role women play in all spheres of life, the prime minister said, "The time is right (for the Bill)."
Addressing the demand for 'quota-within-quota', Singh said, "Some members have expressed reservations about the minority community. Our government is committed to addressing them."
"This is not an anti-minority Bill," he affirmed.
