Narendra Kumar's LFW show all smoke no fire

By Shilpa Raina, Mumbai, March 8 : Narender Kumar's futuristic collection for the denim brand Killer failed to wow the audiences at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week. Even show-stopper Neil Nitin Mukesh couldn't impress.

Mumbai-based designer Kumar, popularly known as Nari, is known for his romance with textures, colours and silhouettes. This time, however, his collection in collaboration with Killer jeans didn't do justice to his creativity.

"This is a futuristic collection and I have tried to transform the way a simple pair of jeans looks like. I have given it a contemporary look that would stand out anywhere in the world," Kumar told IANS after the show here Sunday evening.

Kumar took inspiration from Star Trek theme - the models walked down the ramp dressed like aliens and the whole ambiance of the main show area (MSA) was given an alien land like feel with the help of neon and laser lights.

The collection was in all black. Some shimmering pants and army prints on the denims were also part of the line. When the show-stopper Neil walked on the ramp, it took the audience a minute to recognise him, thanks to the smoke poor visibility.

The worst came when the smoke was pumped in the MSA at regular intervals, leading to poor visibility, especially for the people sitting at the back. The lights on the ramp were not switched on either, adding to the woes of the audience.

In all, we expected a lot better from Nari.
