Shantanu and Nikhil give sports wear a makeover

By Shilpa Raina, Mumbai, March 7 : Tired of wearing boring sports wear? Designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil are at your rescue with their fashionable yet sporty collection for sports apparel brand Adidas at the Lakme Fashion Week here.

The Delhi-based designer duo has collaborated with Adidas for their new label "Adidas Style Essentials" -- a sports-inspired fashion brand for youngsters.

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone Sunday walked the ramp for the designer duo, but it was the edgy and chic collection presented with a peppy background score that glued the audience to their seats.

Supporting the designers at the show were Bollywood actresses Neha Dhupia, Dia Mirza and Shamita Shetty, and tennis star Sania Mirza, who is also the brand ambassador of the sports brand.

Taking inspiration from black and yellow diagonal stripe caution boards and the New York city cabs, the duo showcased apparels, footwear and accessories for the fashion savvy youth.

The line has checkered shorts, cowl dresses, quilted trousers, bubble shorts, jumpsuits, one shoulder dresses, swimsuits, hood jackets in the hues of black and yellow, checks in black and white, and stripes in yellow and black.

Deepika confessed her love for sports wear and said walking on the ramp in them was very easy because she was in the most comfortable clothes.

"I have grown up in sports wear and it is the most comfortable thing one can ever wear. I was very much relaxed before walking the show; in fact, I was dancing before the show because I knew that I was wearing comfortable clothing," Deepika told IANS.

The collection will be available at all Adidas stores across the country and is priced between Rs.499-4,299.
