New Delhi, Mar 6 : The Government is awaiting Pakistan Government's response over the unresolved humanitarian issue pertaining to farmers and fishermen in the custody of both India and Pakistan.
"India had requested Pakistan in January 2010, and again during the talks between Foreign Secretaries last month, to convey dates for the next meeting of India-Pakistan Judicial Committee, which is to be held in Pakistan. The proposal was made so that these humanitarian issues could be addressed expeditiously," an MEA communique said on Saturday.
"Pakistan's response to this issue is still awaited," it added.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, in December 2009 Pakistan released over 100 fishermen, but more than 550 Indian fishermen and 400 Indian fishing boats are still in Pakistan's custody, besides over 220 Indian prisoners.
