London, March 3 : Liverpool Primary School is at the centre of the city's burgeoning red light district.
Within a few streets of the school are 12 adult entertainment venues, which include brothels, sex shops and massage parlours.
And another will be added at the next Liverpool Council meeting.
The new brothel at 12 Scott St will be 136m from the school, and has already been approved by the Council''s independent hearing and assessment panel (IHAP).
At least one brothel is well inside the 100m limit specified by the government rules.
A mum said: "It''s sad that business is more important than children."
Another woman said when the first brothel came to the area parents expressed their unhappiness but stopped complaining when they found brothel applications would be supported in the Land and Environment Court.
The latest brothel is also close to a tutor, a school and a youth centre.
"Although the sex services premises is located close to these land uses, the general factors of the site, including its discreet appearance, proposed methods of operation, entry from the side of the building and character of the locality, justify its location as being acceptable," the Liverpool Reader quoted papers considered by Liverpool''s IHAP meeting on February 25, as saying.
The papers added: "The youth centre is also divided by a main road from the site creating a significant separation from minors."
The brothel had existed illegally at the same site until 2009, but had been approved for use as a massage parlour in 2005.
Since there were no public objections at the IHAP meeting the Council is also likely to approve it.
