New Delhi, Mar 1: Indian hockey player Shivendra Singh has been suspended for three matches for "deliberately" hitting Pakistan's Fareed Ahmed above the eye during Sunday's match, which India won 4-1.
Singh, who scored the first goal for India in that match was suspended by tournament director Ken Read.
However, India can appeal against the ban and latest reports said it has already done so.
In case the ban stays, the Indian forward will have to sit out of India's clashes against Australia on Tuesday, Spain on Thursday and England on Saturday.
A Pakistani player, Irfan Muhammad, was also suspended by Read for wearing an unapproved glove and knee pad in the same match.
