Mumbai, Feb 23 : Huawei, a telecommunications network solutions provider, announced that it has been chosen by China Unicom to upgrade its China169 backbone network.
Huawei's NE5000E cluster router system will exclusively provide the four new backbone nodes in Chengdu, Xi'an, Chongqing and Wuhan.
"With Huawei's cluster router and professional services expertise, the upgrade of this network will support China Unicom's Broadband Acceleration Strategy and provide the enhanced capacity, flexibility and scalability necessary to address the bandwidth demands of its growing consumer base," said Zha Jun, president of Network, Huawei.
To accommodate rapid subscriber and traffic growth, China Unicom seeks to expand and optimize its network, particularly the China169 backbone network, which will be flattened and upgraded to enable more state-of-the-art communication services for China Unicom's customers.
The project will commence in March 2010 and the upgraded network will be fully operational by June 2010.
