India to organise solidarity event against terror Sunday

New Delhi, Nov 28 : Artistes, sportspersons and civil society representatives will participate in a government-organised "Solidarity Against Terror" event at the India Gate Sunday to express the nation's unity against terror.

The home ministry would be organising 60-minute event starting 5 p.m. at the historic monument.

"Artists, sportspersons and representatives of civil society from across the country are coming together at the India Gate to share the message of solidarity, courage and resolve to stand up against terrorist violence," a home ministry spokesman said here Saturday.

Celebrities participating in the event include Shah Rukh Khan, Nandita Das, Javed Akhtar, L. Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal, Shilpa Rao, Shekhar Gupta, Abhinav Bindra, Sania Mirza and Feroz Abbas Khan.

The officials said Nov 29 was symbolic as it was the day on which the 26/11 Mumbai terror siege had ended last year.

"The event has a simple message - terror has no religion. Our solidarity, courage and resoluteness are the answers to the threat of terror," the official added.
