BSF jawan involved in killing of Zahid suspended
.....
The jawan, Lakhwinder of 68 battalion, would be handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir police for further investigation, Special Director General of BSF P T S Sidhu told a news conference here today.
He said immediately after the allegations were levelled that some BSF personnel were involved in the killing of Zahid, a departmental inquiry was initiated by the BSF.
The inquiry revealed prima facie the involvement of Lakhwinder in the incident.
Asked if it was an accident, he said it will become clear after the state police completes its investigation.
The killing of Zahid , which came four days after the death of one Wamiq Farooq at Rajouri Kadal by a police teargas shell, led to massive protests.
Cutting across the party lines, separatists, ruling and opposition mainstream parties condemned the killing.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has already suspended its Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) who fired the teargas shell which hit Wamiq and killed him.
