Upper reaches of Uttarakhand receive heavy snowfall

Normal life was thrown out of gear in several areas of the state following the snowfall and rains.

Temples at famous Char Dham pilgrimage places of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath were covered with snow.

Normal traffic on the highways to Yamunotri and Gangotri were affected following the heavy snowfall at Hanumanchatti near Yamunotri and Harsil near Gangotri. The Yamunotri highway was covered with a layer of some three-feet snow.

In the Kumaon region, the higher reaches of Munsyari and Dharchula received heavy snowfall. The houses and shops caved in due to the snowfall and rains at Tehri and Dhanolti.

While the hilly areas were reeling under cold conditions, the plains received the winter season's second rainfall.
