.....

According to latest reports, a defence spokesperson said the avalanche hit Tangdhar, 145 kms from Srinagar in the wee hours of Tuesday trapping 14 armymen. All the 14 army personnel were extricated from the deep snow but one of them eventually died.

On Monday, the tragedy, which killed 17 people, occurred at Khilanmarg near Gulmarg, a favourite spot for tourists from India and abroad for skiing facilities during winter.

The avalanche occurred at 11 a.m. at Khelanmarg near Gulmarg.

The Army's High Altitude Warfare School at Gulmarg had organised an advance camp at Gujjar Hut on Sunday.

About 300 Army trainees, 100 trainers, 60 support staff and 50 civilians were present when the avalanche came down, said NDTV.
