Subba Rao, Ukkara Pandian Sanjay Kumar, Naveen Raja Jacob and Srikanth were the stars of the Indian Senior Men's Team. Subba Rao played extraordinary in blocking while Ukkara Pandian created some excellent set-ups and adding to the game plan were some extraordinary counter attacks by Naveen Raja Jacob and Srikanth which enabled the team to win with formidable margin.
Indian coach G.E.Sridharan said, "I am very happy with the team's performance. Our hard work has paid off. The key to our success was our attack. Our blockers also stepped up in the finals blocking Pakistan attackers on a regular basis. We are playing good entertaining volleyball, and after this performance our next goal would be to qualify for the Asian Games and then for the Olympic Games. We will keep working hard and keep on improving."
B. Sivanthi Adityan, President of Volleyball Federation of India, said, "We are very proud of our boys. Volleyball Federation of India is pleased with the team's growth. We have decided to award our players, seniors and youth for their achievements. We would also like to congratulate our coaching staff for their immense contribution. We would be honoring our players in a VFI function shortly."
Pakistan started of well by winning the first game of the match by 25-23. India came back into the match by winning the second game 25-23. India finished of the match in style by winning the last two games with ease.
Cash award of Rs. 15 Lakhs would be awarded to the Indian Senior Men's Volleyball Team for their heroics in South Asian Games.
Indian Junior Men's Team would also be awarded for their 4th place finish in the Men's Junior World Championship held at Pune last year. The cash prizes will be distributed to the players soon in a Volleyball Federation of India function.
This was the 11th edition of the South Asian Games. A total of 8 countries participated in the 2010 South Asian Games.
