Bermuda keen to strengthen ties with India

The Prime Minister, who is on a visit to Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi, was speaking to the Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan, here last evening.
The visiting Prime Minister told the Governor that recession had adversely hit tourism, the second most important industry in Bermuda after international finance.
He said the purpose of his visit was to participate in the Outbound Travel Mart's Tourism conference, being held in the city, and to meet business leaders in the city.
He told the Governor that Bermuda was interested in signing a comprehensive Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement with India, and in that connection he was scheduled to meet Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.
Earlier, the Governor extended a warm welcome to the visiting Prime Minister and his wife Wanda Henton Brown.
He expressed hope that bilateral relations between India and Bermuda would be strengthened further by the visit.
