Officials said the flight- EK 505- was grounded for over four hours since around 10 am.
All the 356 passengers, including crew members, were deplaned and frisked and then were allowed to board except for one person, a Mumbai businessman, TV reports said.
The call could have been a hoax and targeted at the detained 70-year-old businessman by any of his rivals, reports said.
The caller had identified a seat number in which the detained businessman was seated.
The flight was allowed to take off later.
The caller has not been identified yet. However, the immigration authorities are interrogating the man.
India has put all Air India and Indian Airlines flights operating in South Asia and its airports on high security alert last month following inputs that a hijack attempt may be made by the Al Qaeda linked terrorists.
