Kolkata, Dec 4 : Belle Vue Clinic, a well-known private nursing home in Kolkata, has announced the launch of Bariatrics and Metabolism Initiative (BMI), an obesity management and bariatric surgery group that adopts evidence based methods to help obese people gain fitness and health.
P Tondon, CEO of Belle Vue Clinic said, "Bariatric surgery is a laparoscopic surgery that helps morbidly obese people lose weight. In this process it may cure or control diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, etc. BMI offers you the most rational weight loss methods through Diet, Lifestyle, Exercise, Medicines, Evaluation, Consultation, Counselling or whatever it takes."
Dr B Ramana, Co-founder of BMI and a laproscopic surgeon, said the weight loss industry, which is worth over USD 100 billion, is replete with snake oil salesmen and ever changing fads.
"BMI is a sincere effort to break the stereotype. Having set out on this venture we have a planned vision for expansion, with preliminary plans to set up supportive weight loss units in existing bariatric surgery clinics in India and the Middle East" , Dr Ramana said.
Dr B Ramana, Dr Sarfaraz Baig and fitness expert Ranadeep Moitra claim to offer the patients the most rational weight loss methods in various forms: Diet, Lifestyle, Exercise, Medicines, Evaluation, Consultation, Counselling and Surgery.
"It is a bitter truth that morbidly obese people will not have successful and sustained weight loss unless they opt for bariatric surgery. At BMI we ensure that the highest quality of products and services are given to the bariatric patient. We aim to be recognized as a centre of excellence in Bariatric Surgery," Dr Sarfaraz Baig, Co-founder of BMI, said.
Bariatric surgery is a form of laparoscopy that helps morbidly obese people lose weight.
"The stress here is on metabolic conditioning without the usual injuries of physical training, using compound, multi-joint movements. We are perhaps the only organisation in Eastern India that uses kettlebells, ropes, sledgehammers and tyres for fat loss workouts." Ranadeep Moitra, fitness coach of BMI, said.
