Urumi opens Indian Panorama of IFFI 2011

Panaji, Nov 24: The Indian Panorama section of the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Thursday opened with Santosh Sivan's directed Malayalam feature film 'Urumi'.

Secretary, Information and Broadcasting Uday Kumar Varma inaugurated the Section in the presence of veteran film actress Madhuri Dixit Nene.

Clad in a knee length yellow outfit, Madhuri, who skirted media questions, is on her third visit to Goa.

"It is my third visit to the city and love every moment of my stay here. I am thankful that organizers gave me an opportunity for participating in the very prestigious and internationally renowned film festival," she said after the Section's unveiling.

The inaugural movie is of a 6th Century fierce warrior clans of northern Kerala and a man with an epic mission to assassinate Dom Vasco da Gama, the Viceroy of Portuguese Empire in India.

The movie stars Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Genelia D'Souza Vidhya Balan, American actor Alex O' Neil and others.

Konkani Movie 'O Maria', based on sale of land and outsider-insider issue plaguing in Goa is also among 24 other feature films to-be screened in the Indian Panorama. The non- features section will screen 23 movies.

The 10-day long festival was inaugurated yesterday.
