The film was launched at Thamukkam Grounds in Madurai on the occasion of producer's father and Union Minister M.K. Azhagiri's birthday.
Azhagiri's mother Dayalu Ammal lit the traditional Kuthu Vilakku while his wife Gandhi Azhagiri gave the first clap.
It looks like 'Thoonga Nagaram' is a film set against the backdrops of Madurai, which is commonly addressed a city that never sleeps. The film is directed by debutant Gaurav, once an associate of K.S. Ravikumar and features 'Pasanga' Vimal, 'Nadodigal' fame Bharani and 'Renigunta' Nishanth in lead roles while 'Kattradhu Tamizh' Anjali takes on the female lead.
Apart from handling story, screenplay and direction, filmmaker Gaurav himself performs a prominent role with Sundar C Babu scoring music.
