Urumi to open Indian Panorama of IFFI 2011

Panaji, Oct 18 : The Indian Panorama of the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) with 23 films will open with Santosh Sivan directed Malayalam feature film 'Urumi'.

The jury for feature films headed by noted filmmaker Sai Paranjpe chose the movie for the opening, which is based on 16th Century fierce warrior clans of northern Kerala and a man with an epic mission to assassinate Dom Vasco da Gama, the Viceroy of Portuguese Empire in India.

The movie stars Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Genelia D'Souza Vidhya Balan, American actor Alex O' Neil and others.

Konkani Movie 'O Maria', based on sale of land and outsider-insider issue plaguing in Goa will also be screened in the Indian Panorama. 'He...' Bhorjpuri film is also among other feature films to be screened in the section. The non- features section will screen 23 movies.

The 10-day IFFI extravaganza is scheduled to begin on November 23 with its opening ceremony to be held in Margao, South Goa. The main festival will be spread between Panaji and Margao.
