Need to develop reading habit in children: NGO

New Delhi, Jan 31 : In the age of internet when information is just a click away, an NGO Sunday emphasised on developing reading habits among children by making books available to them.

To promote reading culture, the Association of Writers and Illustrators for Children (AWIC) is conducting an International Conference on 'Children's Libraries - Building a Book Culture' from Feb 4 to 6 in the capital.

"We need to have more libraries for children so that books are easily available to them across the country, including those from poor background," said an AWIC official.

Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and many other eminent personalities are likely to participate in the conference, the official said.

AWIC is a voluntary organisation devoted to books and the promotion of the reading habit in children. It runs libraries voluntarily in homes, slums and in rural areas.
