From time immemorial, important events have been taking place in the thirty one days that goes in making up the first month of the year. One of those thirty one days is the twenty ninth day, which has significance of its own.

Way back, in the year 904, on this very day, Sergius III came out of his retirement in order to take over the papacy from the deposed Christopher, who was branded as an anti-pope. In the year 1595, on this very day, the very famous play of William Shakespeare, 'Romeo and Juliet' was first performed. In the year 1613, on this very day, Galileo observed the planet Neptune with his own handmade telescope, but was unable to recognize the thing that he was seeing.

In the year 1834, on this day, President Jackson of the United States ordered the first use of the United States troops in order to curb the labor disturbances all over the country. In the year 1939, on this very day, Charles Darwin married Emma Wedgwood. In the year 1848, on this day, Sicily accepted their new constitution, thereby accepting freedom of press and a parliamentary form of democracy.

In the year 1856, the Victoria Cross was established in order to acknowledge bravery on this very day. In the year 1861, on this very day, the state of Kansas became the 34th state of the United States of America.

In the year 1916, on this very day, Paris was bombed for the first time, by the German Zeppelins. In the year 1920, on the 29th of January, Walt Disney started his first job as an artist in K C Slide Company for USD 40 per week. In the year 1924, on this day, the first ice cream cone rolling machine was patented by Carl Taylor. In the year 1933, on this day, Adolf Hitler was appointed as the Chancellor of Germany. In the year 1951, on this day, Elizabeth Taylor got her first divorce from Conrad Hilton Jr.

In the year 1969, Britain was refused entry into the European Economic Community on this very day. In the year 1978, on this day, Sweden created a unique history. The country was the first to ban the use of aerosol spray, which was damaging the ozone layer. This was one step that had set an example for other countries to follow.

This day is also famous in the history of the world for the birth of many luminaries. In the year 1737, the famous American writer, Thomas Paine was born on this day. The famous American politician Adam Clayton Powell was also born on this day in the year 1908. Victor Mature an American actor was born in the year 1913 on this very day. Indian test cricketer Vinod Kambli made his test debut on this very day in the year 1993.
