The 25th of January is a very important date for the history of England. On this very day, in the year 1327, King Edward III acceded to the throne of England. In the year 1348, on this very day, the area of Villach was hit by a powerful earthquake. This earthquake took away the lives of more than 5,000 people.

In the year 1554, Sir Thomas Wyatt started his revolt against Queen Mary on this very day. Sir Thomas gathered an army in the Kent region and declared war on the queen. On 25th January, in the year 1755, the University of Moscow was established.

In the year 1799, Eliakim Spooner of Vermont was granted the first US patent for a seeding machine on this day. On 25th January 1875, the first Anti Slavery Society was formed in New York. From this day onwards, the fight against slavery got more impetuous. In the year 1879, the Bulgarian National Bank was formed on this very day.

Thomas Alva Edison and Alexander Graham Bell joined hands to form the Oriental telephone Company, which came into being on this very day. In the year 1905, the largest diamond was found on this day of the year. The name of the diamond was Cullinan and it weighs 3106 carets.

In the year 1917, United States bought the area of Virgin Islands for a price of 25 million dollars on this very day. In the year 1924, the first modern Winter Olympic Games were officially opened on this day, in the French Alps.

In the year 1955, the United States and Panama signed the Canal treaty on this very day. The year 1972 was a very important year for medical science. On this day in the year 1972, the first kidney and pancreatic tissue transplant was carried out in London. Just after two years another medical feat was performed on this date. On this day in the year 1974, Sir Christian Barnard performed the first heart transplant while leaving the original heart in place.

In the year 1983, the first infra red telescope was launched in the polar orbit on 25th January. In the year 1993, Puerto Rico finally added English as the second official language of the country on this very day. On this day in the year 1759, Robert Burns, the national poet of Scotland was born. In the year 1882, Virginia Woolf, the famous English novelist was also born on this day. In the history of the Indian union too, this day has a special significance. On this very day, in the year 1971, the 18th state of the Indian Union, in the form of Himachal Pradesh was formed.
