Biman Bose urges people to join Jyoti Basu's memorial meeting

Kolkata, Jan 23: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary Biman Bose has urged the people to join Sunday's memorial meeting for veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu at the Shaheed Minar Maidan here.

"We request everyone to come and join the memorial meeting. We expect participation from each and every section of the society," Bose, who is also the chairman of the state's ruling Left Front, said Saturday.

"Representatives from the Bangladesh Worker's Party and political parties from Nepal have confirmed that they will join the memorial meeting. CPI-M General secretary Prakash Karat will also join the meeting tomorrow," Bose said at a press conference here.

Basu, the 95-year-old Communist patriarch, who was the chief minister of West Bengal for 23 long years, died of multiple organ failure Jan 17.
