Dhobi Ghat: Kiran Rao Resorted To Facebook For Actress
January 15, 2011 : Kiran Rao, the debutant director of Dhobi Ghat wanted a fresh face for her flick, a face that has not been exposed to the camera or on screen before, so where did she look?Kiran went to the social networking site Facebook to find the lady who would star opposite her husband Aamir Khan in the film. After going through over hundreds of photographs, it was a Facebook profile pic where she found her Yasmin.
Kirti Malhotra is making the debut as an actress after working on Aamir Khan's costume department for a long time now. Kirti goes on to state that when a friend of hers told her about Kiran, stating that the debutant director wants Kirti to audition for Yasmin. Since Kirti is not camera friendly and had no experience in acting before she was nervous, it became more daunting when she found out that Aamir will be opposite her.
But things just fell into places as soon as the audition was over and Kiran told her that while visiting a friend's friend-list Mrs. Rao found her and she suited the role of Yasmin perfectly. Malhotra goes on to state that Aamir Khan just eased her and made her relaxed on the set and after that the shooting was good.
Dhobi Ghat is launching quite a few people in new avatar, while Kiran dons the cap of a director; Kirti goes in front of the camera from the costume department and Prateik Babbar steps into the role of a hero. The film after collecting quite raving reviews after screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, it is not all set to hit the Indian theatres on Jan 21, 2010.
