Aarohan premieres in Kolkata
Kolkata, Aug 26: Director Pinaki Chaudhury's latest Bengali film, 'Aarohan' starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Sandha Ray, Rituparna Sengupta and debutant actor Somadarshi Dutta, premiered here on Wednesday night.Tollywood veteran Soumitra Chatterjee, portrays the role of Suryasekhar Chattopadhyay, a person of firm principles with deep religious beliefs. His performance is undoubtedly one of the best things about this movie.
The story revolves around Soumitra's character's staunch beliefs, how it leads to a divide between him an his only son Aloke and the entree of his grandson Arijit.
The story is well conceptualized and the actors put in an honest effort to do justice to the script. The work of Somadarshi Dutta, an acting graduate from FTII, Pune deserves special mention.
Rituparna Sengupta, despite a short screen presence, plays a vital role in the story and her efforts on Bihari pronunciation and dialects are appreciable.
Sandhya Ray who stars opposite Soumitra Chatterjee, plays the character of an educated lady who stays a mute witness to her husband's whims.
Despite most of the songs being quite good, their inclusion often seemed to interrupt the screenplay slowing down the pace of the story.
On the other hand, the cinematography of the film was not as adventurous as one would have hoped and hardly captures the beauty that a river-side city like Varanasi has to offer.
In the end, featuring good directorial efforts, Aarohan does do a nice job when pitched against the current day standards of Tollywood, despite leaving room for improvement.
