Pakistani intrusion bid foiled by BSF at Rajatal in Punjab
By Ravinder Singh Robin, Rajatal, (India-Pakistan Border), Jan. 5 : Border Security Personnel (BSF) personnel foiled a bid by suspected Pakistani smugglers who were trying to sneak into Indian territory at Rajatal sector of Indo Pak border on Monday night.
At least one of the intruders was killed during the cross-firing while the other managed to escape in the dense fog and return to Pakistani territory.
BSF personnel, however, recovered 5.5 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs. 25 crore, China made automatic pistol and counterfeit Indian currency of two million rupees.
The counterfeit notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 were packed in a suitcase and the heroin had been packed in six packets.
According to Additional Deputy Inspector General Jagir Singh, on noticing some movement, the security personnel gave repeated warning. But when the smugglers refused to surrender the BSF personnel opened fire and killed one of smugglers on the spot. However, the other one escaped.
He said that as per the preliminary enquiry it seems to be a smuggling attempt.
Border Security Force is undertaking extra security measures to curtail the smuggling attempts at the border, especially during the foggy weather. It has also installed night vision devices along the border, said Mohammed Aquil, DIG (Border Range), BSF.
Pakistani Rangers also open fired upon the BSF personnel when the latter were doing search operation at night. In retaliation, BSF had to open fire, said Aquil.
BSF also registered their protest with their counterpart, 'the Pakistani Rangers' about the smuggling attempt from Pakistani side.
