While James Cameron's epic action adventure 'Avatar' has become a huge success around the globe, it has also shown its magic at the Indian box office with theatres running houseful in the second week of its release.
Not only has it become a hot favourite among the Indian audiences but our very own Bollywood fraternity can't stop praising director James Cameron's vision and expertise in making such a revolutionary film.
When noted Bollywood filmmakers were recently asked about their favourite film of the year 2009, the response was unanimous as almost each one of them picked 'Avatar'.
Director Karan Johar said, "I actually have four favourite films this year. 'Kaminey', 'Paa', '3 Idiots' and 'Avatar'. All four raised the bars for filmmaking. But while the first three were for me aspirational, 'Avatar' was unachievable."
While Sanjay Gupta exclaimed that the question was redundant for anyone who has seen 'Avatar', Apoorva Lakhia called it an out of this world experience.
Ram Gopal Varma who was taken aback after watching the film said, "'Avatar' is by far one of the best films I've seen in my life. James Cameron is God. In fact, he has gone a step ahead of God by building a world even God couldn't imagine. After watching 'Avatar', I felt I belong to a primitive filmmaking world."
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali claimed that he was impressed with the concept of the movie and said, "'Avatar' is my favourite film of 2009. It made an important point about our civilization in a subtle manner and with the most powerful audio-visuals."
It's not only filmmakers, but several Bollywood actors have also been swept away by the immersing experience of 'Avatar'. After watching the film at the premiere, Abhishek Bachchan immediately 'tweetwed' his views about the film. "It's not a film. It's an experience! James Cameron is Hollywood's answer to my favourite director Manmohan Desai! He could pull off anything. 'Avatar' too is a Hindi film at heart. It's definitely a "must watch" for the experience," he said.
Imran Khan recently wrote extensively about the film in his column for a leading English daily saying that 'Avatar' was "Great fun, really enjoyed it...a full-on melodramatic Bollywood pikchar!"
Looks like B-Town is surely blown away by 'Avatar'!
