Defence Minister Antony turns 70

New Delhi, Dec 28 : Congress workers assembled here to celebrate the 125th foundation day of the party were pleasantly surprised when Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit congratulated Defence Minister A.K. Antony on his turning 70 Monday.

"I also congratulate A.K. Antonyji, who celebrates his 70th birthday today (Monday)," Dikshit said while delivering vote of thanks to party leaders and workers who gathered here to mark the Congress' anniversary.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, other senior leaders and party workers acknowledged Dikshit's remarks on Antony with loud applause.

"There is no function," said Antony's office when asked about the birthday celebrations.

Antony, who has thrice served as chief minister of Kerala, was born on Dec 28, 1940.
