India to triple wind power to 33,000 MW by 2022: Minister

New Delhi, Nov 27 : India will triple is wind power generation capacity to 33,000 megawatt by 2022, New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah said here today.

Power generation from solar energy would reach about 1,300 MW in next three years, he said at a function, adding he had commited this to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The wind power energy target will be achieved through private public partnership initiatives, he said, adding his Ministry has received a large number of proposals from India Inc.

Assuring large scale private sector participation in harnessing energy in non-conventional areas, Industry chamber Assocham president Swati Piramal sought a suitable policy framework listing incentives and simplification of procedures.
