40 injured as US plane overshoots runway in Jamaica

Washington, Dec 23 : About 40 people were injured as an American Airlines plane split into two after overshooting a runway in the airport of Kingston, Jamaica, local media said Wednesday.

No fatalities were reported.

"The plane crashed and broke almost in front of me," the Jamaica Observer quoted a passenger who was seated at the D8 seat as saying.

CNN said, citing airport officials, that 148 passengers and six crew members were onboard the Boeing-737 plane on a flight from Miami.

It apparently missed the runway in the Norman Manley International Airport due to pouring rain, but came to a safe stop.

Three passengers received serious injuries, according to the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper.
