Arti Mehra,Vijender Gupta front runners for Delhi BJP president post
New Delhi, Dec 22 : Former Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra and former chairman of the MCD standing committee Vijender Gupta are the front runners for the post of New Delhi Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) president, party sources say.
Sources said the name for the new president of Delhi BJP is likely to be decided by new BJP president Nitin Gadkari and other senior leaders of the party in the next few days.
Besides Ms Mehra and Mr Gupta, State BJP leader Nand Kishore Garg and former leader of the opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Jagdish Mukhi are also vying for the post.
Sources in the party, however, said Ms Mehra and Mr Gupta were strong favourites for the post.
''As Mayor of Delhi for two consecutive terms, Ms Mehra has done a lot of developmental work in Delhi. Also, Mr Gupta has put in a lot of work as chairman of the MCD standing committee. He has also been a front runner in the agitation by parents against the fee hike in private schools. In this sense, both of them are quite deserving of the post,'' the sources said.
The former mayor has , however, denied having any information about her being the front runner for the post.
''I have absolutely no information on this. No party person has even talked to me about it. In fact, it is only through the media that I am hearing about this,''she told UNI.
It is also believed that the current state BJP president is being considered for the post of secretary of the party.
