Shillong, Jul 14 : The government has turned its attention to the International Financial Corporation (IFC) to seek support, investment and advisory to boost investment in Meghalaya.
The first ever meeting between the IFC and the state government was held yesterday which was attended by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Chief Secretary WMS Pariat, Additional Chief Secretary, PBO Warjri and other senior officials.
The IFC delegation was led by its Senior Manager (India), Thomas S Davenport.
''We have discussed various potential sectors ranging from power, tourism, health, education and mineral resources,'' Mr Warjri said after the meeting.
Apart from seeking financial support, investment and advisory, the government was also exploring the possibility of identifying private investors through IFC to invest in the state, Mr Warjri said.
The financial support that the IFC could extend to the state will be in the form of grants and loans, Mr Warjri said, adding another meeting to discuss on feedback regarding potential sectors of the state will be held shortly, Mr Warjri informed.
The IFC which deals in financing, investment and advisory is also working with the Centre as well as private agencies in agri-business, climate change, micro-financing, micro-insurance, telecommunication and other sectors, Mr Warjri added.
