'Silent observer' installed in sonography clinics in Kolhapur Dist

Kolhapur, Jul 12 : The district administration has completed attaching a high tech device, 'silent observer', in all the sonography centres in the city with the main server in the collectorate building to effectively control sex determination and femal foeticide.

District collector Laxmikant Deshmukh today said the work on setting up of 'silent observer' in all the sonography centres started on May one, 2010, at the hands of district Guardian minister, Harshwardhan Patil.

He said the purpose of setting up the 'silent observer' is to stop the girl child abortion.

The last such machine was installed in a clinic at Shahpuri at the hands of Dr Sanjay Gupte, president of the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists Societies of India (FOGSI), he said.

Later speaking at the workshop organised for doctors in Tararani hall at the district collectorate, Dr Gupte expressed serious concern over the killing of girl child and appealed the doctors to look into the matter seriously to boost the female ratio.

This is a good initiative under 'Save Girl Child' programme and doctors should co-operate with the administration in its endeavour by letting their centres equipped with 'silent observer', Dr Gupte stated.
