Laying of 125 km new lines in K'taka completed: Muniyappa

Bangalore, Jul 8 : Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa today said the Railways have completed new lines to a length of 125 km of the total stretch of 1433 km so far in Karnataka.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the state goverment had agreed to cost the share of four onging projects with the Railways.

The ongoing laying of new line projects under cost sharing were Hassan-Bangalore, Kadur-Chikamagalur-Sakleshpur, Arsikere-Birur doubling of tracks and Kolar-Chikkaballapur gauge conversion. The work between Hubli-Khalghatgi section in the non-forest area would be completed soon, he added.

The doubling of 362km Hospet-Hubli-Londa-Vasco at a cost of Rs 2,127 crore has been sanctioned in this year's budget and would be executed soon.

Of the 23 projects to be implemented at a cost of Rs 11,385 crore, the state government would share the cost for seven projects by extending Rs 2,200 crore, he said.

The seven projects were Kottur-Harihar, Bangalore-Mysore, Munirabad-Raichur, Shimoga-Talguppa, Bagalkot-Kudachi, Gulbarga-Bidar and Raichur-Gadwal.

The three world class stations sanctioned in Karnataka were Bangalore city, Baiyappanahalli and Mangalore, he said, adding the Railway Board has accepted the inspection report on Baiyappanahalli station and the land required for the project was yet to be decided.
