Melbourne, June 30 : In an astonishing similarity to Josef Fritzl's case, a father sexually abused his two daughters for 14 years, hiding the dark secret behind the facade of a happy family, a court has been told.
Fritzl was sentenced to life imprisonment last year after a trial that found him guilty of sexually abusing his daughter resulting in seven births and one miscarriage.
The man, 64, has been convicted in the Victorian County Court of 19 devastating sex crimes against the girls, starting when they were aged between three and four.
The crimes, including 11 of incest and two of gross indecency, were committed between 1981 and 1995.
"I think of myself as if I am worth nothing, something to be abused and discarded," The Herald Sun quoted one of his daughters reading out aloud her victim impact statement.
"I have lived a masked life ... which has scarred me for life," she added.
Her sister's victim impact statement was read to the court by her lawyer, saying she had lost all confidence and self-esteem.
"I chant on a daily basis that I hate myself, I hate myself, I hate myself," she said.
The judge assured them that they would be vindicated and that they had been very brave to come out in the open about what had happened.
Their father will be sentenced on July 19.
