Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 29 : A cyber detective and crime investigation cell and a website on cyber crime awareness will be launched here tomorrow.
Addressing a press conference here, Avanzo Charitable Trust Managing Trustee Pattathil Dhany said her initiative in this regard was in the wake of increasing cyber crime following the proliferation of broadband and the subsequent use of internet as well as the extraordinary concentration in the use of cell phones in Kerala.
The launching event would be attended by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Sibi Mathew, Kerala Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar, IT Principal Secretary Ajaykumar and Women Commission Chairperson Justice Sree Devi, she said.
A toll free cyber number -- 1800-266-8001 -- would also be made available for cyber crime victims, she said, adding, ''the helpline is intended to create fundamental awareness and learn some basic precautions while using mobiles, internet and computers.'' ''Time is a crucial factor in such cases and it's important that people know they preserve evidence and don't panic by taking extreme steps like suicides when they face threats. The knowledge that there is always help available is what is intended to be spread through the helpline,'' she added.
