Kolkata, Jun 23 : Bengal Rugby Football Union (BRFU) today announced its fixtures of tournaments for the season, including All India and South East Asia Rugby, beginning August 28.
BRFU president Vaes Paes and secretary Gunit Singh Grewal told reporters that since Rugby was getting popular among the school students in recent times, the BRFU had chalked out game schedules from lower rung to semi-professional level for all ages.
A Rugby calender, which was released to the media, said the Centenary Cup, Calcutta Cup, All India and South East Asia Rugby and Giorgiadi 7's among other championships are going to be held at CCFC ground and SAI premises.
They said currently ten clubs and fifteen schools take part in various tournaments, being organised by the BRFU.
The All India and South East Asia Rugby tournament will be held between August 28 and September 4 where twelve teams are expected to play. The tournament will showcase the best talents available in India. The players from this competition will be selected to represent India at the Asian Games qualifier tournaments.
The BRFU also announced that eight women from Bengal have been shortlisited for selection to the national team.
