Assamese musician launches school in Bangalore

Bangalore, May 25 : An Assamese musician has launched a school in Bangalore to promote western classical music, and at the same time, spread the message of oneness and harmony across the country.

In 2006, Jim Ankan Deka arrived here to join a business firm. But his passion for music convinced him to search for music institutes.

Deka says he noticed there were many classical and folk music academies in the city. This is when the thought of opening a western classical music school came to his mind.

Established in 2007, the 'Eastern Fare Music Foundation' today has four institutions and two recording studios.

The school has become quite popular since its inception.

"People are actually responding well. It's not much commercialized. We don't put banners and all. What we do is, we try to impress people through our hard work and dedication, if they like our effort, then they go and tell their friends. We have near about 450 students in all," said Jim Ankan Deka.

Teachers and students of this school believe that music can bind people emotionally and bring peace to the society.

"When any kind of expression fails then music is born. It's really being able to help people of different age group to express themselves, to utilize their time in a better way, to involve them in something, which gives them inner peace," said Parineeta, a teacher at the music school.

"Without music people may be so different from each other. People belongs to different areas, I belong to Tamil Nadu and other from some other place but when we sing, it seems that we are meant to be together and all of this world will have that idea in our mind," said Ashita, one of the music students.

Jim plans to start a music school in Assam.

"In northeast, there are a lot of musicians who play beautifully. But when it comes to teaching, they lack, as they themselves didn't learn it from anywhere. So, probably in August, I am going to start a music school in Assam," said Deka.

It is hoped that the initiative of this young Assamese musician will inspire other budding musicians in the Northeast.
