Bangalore/New Delhi, Dec 14 : Swaraj Kaushal, the husband of BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, late Monday denied that he has been appointed standing counsel for Karnataka.
"I have not applied for it. I have not given consent to it and I have not got the order," Kaushal told IANS from Delhi.
When told that a copy of the order is in circulation, he said: "It could be a mischievous one".
Kaushal said since he had served as governor of Mizoram, "there is a constitutional bar on accepting any government post".
"Moreover, I was standing counsel for Karnataka for four years between 1983-87, why should I accept it now?"
IANS has a copy of the government notification, appointing Kaushal, issued on Dec 5.
In the order, the address of Kaushal is 8, Safdarjung Lane, New Delhi, which is the residence of his wife Sushma Swaraj as a Lok Sabha member.
